A foggy morning doesn’t dampen our spirits as we fill our tummies with a hot breakfast.
3
Our intrepid leaders scout the way into the mist...
4
... and we dutifully follow.
5
Walking on the firm ice is a welcome relief after the squishy unstable tussocks!
6
Once again Carol and Drew test the ice...
7
.. as the giggling peanut gallery looks on. (Heide, Margaret and Cherie)
8
Unfortunately, the entire river hasn’t quite frozen over, and we end up splashing across a few stretches on slippery rocks.
9
Most of us stay on our feet .(I won’t mention who slipped and tried to go for a swim!)
10
After the ice we encounter the lumpiest stretch of tussocks on the entire trip as we climb over an endless hill. Near the top we stop for a much-appreciated rest...
11
...and a much-appreciated lunch! Lynn takes pleasure in piling the food into everyone’s cups. (Whoever brought that huge dog bowl in front sure had the right idea...!!)
12
After a day of soggy hiking, we make an attempt to dry our wet gear by hanging it in the tent .
13
Nature cooperates, and soon we have a bit of blue sky reappearing...
14
...in time to climb a ways above camp and survey our domain.
15
Nobody wants to miss the nightly trash burning (or you have to carry your used TP again for another day!). Cherie, Heide, Lynn, Margaret, Carol, Rosel and Perry have made their contributions.
16
Margaret relishes her self-appointed role as our master fire minder.
17
A bit of sun starts to light up our campsite...
18
...so it’s time to hang out the laundry!
19
A little more sun, and we have a downright decent evening! The Glacial Avens pick up a bit of warm glow from the low (but never-setting) sun.

A Wooly Lousewort has held on to a few raindrops in its furry coat, giving it extra sparkle.
